Life-Size Zombie Pumpkin Display by Villafane Studios

image

image

Over this past weekend, master pumpkin sculptor Ray Villafane and his talented team of carvers were hard at work, transforming three of the largest pumpkins grown in the United States into a crazy sculptural display of zombies and other unearthly creatures. The largest one they carved into weighed an astounding 1,872 pounds. According to Villafane, they were going to use this year’s world record holder but “it sprung a leak.”

This year, a life-size, 6-foot tall standing zombie with its insides oozing out, is seen holding a bundle of pumpkin vines, pulling other zombies out of the ground. The team started out at Grand Central Station and then ended up at the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx where their incredible carvings will be on display until October 31.

To see the zombies come back from the dead, you can watch a making-of video here. Also, make sure to check out what Villafane created last year. In my opinion, it’s still the most ingenious zombie pumpkin carving ever.

U.S. Survival AR-7 – Black/Camo

image

Since 1959, the venerable AR-7 has been the choice of U.S. Air Force pilots who need a small-caliber rifle they can count on for survival should they have to punch out over a remote area. Over the years, the AR-7′s reputation for portability, ease of operation and reliability has carried over to the civilian world as well.

image

Today, it’s a favorite of bush pilots, backpackers and backcountry adventurers who, like their Air Force counterparts, need a rifle that’s easy to carry but has the accuracy to reliably take down small game.

Like the original Henry US Survival Rifle, our latest take on this innovative, semi-automatic rifle is lightweight (just 3.5 lbs) and highly portable. At just 16 ½” long (when all the components are stowed), it fits easily into the cargo area of a plane or boat or in a backpack. And because it’s chambered in .22LR you can carry a large quantity of ammunition, without adding much weight to your gear.

image

When disassembled, the pieces fit inside the impact-resistant, waterproof stock, which will float should it take a trip overboard. Assembly is as easy as attaching the receiver to the stock, inserting the barrel and screwing on the barrel nut. In just a few seconds, without the need for any tools, the Henry U.S. Survival AR-7 is ready for action.

The Henry U.S. Survival AR-7 comes standard with a sturdy steel barrel covered in tough ABS plastic and then coated with Teflon for complete protection against corrosion. Plus,it’s engineered for perfect balance and the ability to maintain its tack-driving accuracy, even after thousands of rounds.

image

The Henry Survival Rifle’s waterproof stock enables it to float if dropped into water. It can be easily retrieved and will still function.

Like the barrel, the receiver is also coated with a layer of waterproof Teflon for superior weatherproofing, waterproof protection, even in harsh salt water environments. Plus, the updated receiver is grooved making it easy to top it off with your favorite optics.

The Henry U.S. Survival AR-7 is available in Black and Camo finishs. All models are equipped with an adjustable rear sight and a blade front sight.

Q&A with Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd, on The Walking Dead Season 3

image

The Walking Dead’s Q&A with Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd describes sending Season 3′s extras to zombie graduate school and predicts who would win in a walker-pirate battle.

Q: You guys are now shooting Episode 303. How are things on set?

A: They’ve been great…We shut down the town [we're shooting in], and we had a couple hundred fans surrounding the town. And they stuck around not able to see anything, so I have to give them full credit for their persistence.

Q: This season is the longest yet, at 16 episodes. What kind of challenges does a longer season present?

A: It’s really a marathon this year. The advantage is we have had some cooler weather in May and we’ll be going into cooler weather again in October. The challenge is maintaining the same intense level of storytelling that our audience expects of us, and we certainly plan to deliver on that.

Q: There are so many new locations and characters this season, what are you most excited about?

A: I will say that I loved the farm, but it is good to be off the farm. And the contrast between our [two main sets] this season is so great…We’re setting up this first community that is functioning in a post-zombie apocalypse. We get to see not only the advantages of putting civilization back on its feet again but also the dark forces at work in what may seem like a Utopia.

Q: A lot of this season is filmed on an air-conditioned soundstage. Are you relieved to be inside or do you miss the outdoor shoots?

A: We were shooting in the woods again a few days ago, which I’m sure will always be a component of our series. And we encountered the ticks and the chiggers and the wildlife again, so they reminded us of many of our travails last season. Plus we were hit by a deluge of a rainstorm and we had to evacuate that set… But the air-conditioned stages are very much enjoyed by cast and crew alike. [Laughs]

Q: This is your third season of The Walking Dead. What’s the secret to keeping the show feeling fresh and scary?

A: It’s really important to focus on making the story as richly character-driven as possible because the scares and the sense of jeopardy only come with identifying with those characters when they’re in jeopardy.

image

Q: There are many new human threats this season, which you’ve always warned about, but what about the zombies. What new tricks can we expect from them?

A: Obviously we have the absolute best makeup effects team on the planet, led by Greg Nicotero… And every year he ups his game. So we’re not just seeing the same old thing. This season, we’re going to have puppeted animatronic zombies and that’s something that we haven’t seen before.

image

Q: Have the zombie extras improved their technique over three seasons?

A: [The zombies] get better and better. Now they’ve had three years of zombie college and they’re about to go to graduate school… Our Walkers all have a history that the performer brings to the table, which is, “Okay where was I bitten, what part of my body has been affected, and how long have I been in the zombie state?” And that determines whether one arm isn’t working or if they were bitten on the neck, maybe their head hangs over to one side.

Q: Next month will be your third visit to Comic-Con to give fans a look at The Walking Dead. What can fans expect?

A: We like to bring a special reel for the fans at Comic-Con so they can see a special sneak peak of Season 3 before everyone else. It’s sort of a reward for waiting in line to getting it into the hall. And we’ll be bringing a larger contingent of our cast and crew than ever this year. And also because we began shooting a lot earlier this year, the reel will contain a lot more footage than it has in the past.

image

Q: We’ve heard that you’re working on a pirate TV show. Any similarities between pirates and zombies?

A: The thing about pirates is they’re a little easier to kill, but at the same time they won’t stop at anything either. They’re all out, all the time, and they’re not easily dissuaded once they’ve got their eye on the prize.

image

Q: But who would win a battle between the two?

A: I think it would depend on how many zombies there were and how quickly [the pirates] figure out that you have to destroy the brain or they’ll keep on coming.

Zombie killed by Police in Miami was ‘eating’ face off victim

The horror began about 2 p.m. when a series of gunshots were heard on the ramp, which is along NE 13th Street, just south of The Miami Herald building.

According to police sources, a road ranger saw a naked man chewing on another man’s face and shouted on his loud speaker for him to back away.Meanwhile, a woman also saw the incident and flagged down a police officer who was in the area.

The officer, who has not been identified, approached and, seeing what was happening, also ordered the naked man to back away. When he continued the assault, the officer shot him, police sources said. The attacker failed to stop after being shot, forcing the officer to continue firing.

Investigators believe the victim may have been homeless and laying down when the crazed man pounced.

Police theorize the attacker might have been suffering from “cocaine psychosis,” a drug-induced craze that bakes the body internally and often leads the affected to strip naked to try and cool off
